SHANTI AND DANIEL FIGHT HUMANITARIAN AID CHARGES

No More Deaths volunteers, Shanti Sellz and Daniel Strauss, both 23, were arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol for medically evacuating 3 people in critical condition from the 105-degree Arizona desert in July 2005.

Shanti and Daniel were following the protocol of NMD training (acknowledged by NMD and US Border Patrol) by consulting medical professionals who advised them to evacuate the critically ill men to a medical facility, and then consulting a NMD attorney who approved the evacuation.

Their arrest and subsequent prosecution for providing humanitarian aid has shocked people of conscience around the world. These young humanitarians are facing prosecution by the US government which could result in a 15 year prison sentence.

We urgently need your help and support to stop this prosecution.

WE FAST FOR JUSTICE
The No More Deaths coalition announces a 40-day fast for Justice on the Border to coincide with the seasons of Lent and Passover, beginning on March 1st.  We call on our supporters to join us as we hold vigil every day from 8:00 am until sunset at El Tiradito shrine in downtown Tucson. We fast in remembrance of the lives claimed along our border and in protest of the policies that cause these deaths. We continue to call on the government to drop all charges against No More Deaths volunteers Shanti Sellz and Daniel Strauss.

TAKE ACTION:
JOIN OUR FAST we need volunteers to join and support our fast at El Tiradito shrine in Tucson, AZ. Contact us at action@nomoredeaths.org if you or your organization can join us for a day. Or just stop by the shrine to sign up! (Located at Main and Cushing St in Tucson AZ)

DONATE CANDLES we are collecting seven-day candles in glass jars to honor the lives of those who have died crossing our desert. Bring candles to the shrine during the day or to one of our vigils. We hold short vigils every evening at 6PM.
